REMOVE OLD MATERIAL
All old materials must be completely removed in order to inspect the decking underneath. Any soft, wet or rotted wood needs to be replaced to completely protect your new roof. Also, wood sheeting needs to be inspected to make sure that it is attached to the roof rafters correctly. We will ensure that there are no missing nails during the removal of old roofing material, which will guarantee that your new shingles are installed correctly.
PREPARING THE ROOF
We employ the following steps to guarantee your home is highly protected:
Drip edge Installation- This is a piece of metal bent at 90 degrees to prevent rain from getting underneath roofing material on all edges.
Ice and water shield installation – This is a special type of roofing underlayment. Ice and water shield sticks to the wood decking which prevents any water leaks. It must be installed at the bottom of the roof and at all roof penetrations such as chimneys, pipe flanges, roof connections, etc
Roofing felt installation– after ice and water shield is applied, the rest of the roof needs to be covered with roofing felt. Roofing felt prevents shingles from sticking to the wood (making future repair difficult)
NEW ROOFING MATERIAL INSTALLATION
After the above steps are completed and the base is ready, we start laying out the new roofing material, working from the bottom to the top, following by step and counter flashing, ridge vents and ridge capping installation as needed.
SITE CLEANUP
We clean the site daily. Additionally, we dispose of old materials in the most environmentally friendly fashion possible.
A Final inspection guarantees that your roof replacement has been done correctly and that it meets required standards.
